NEW YORK, USA, Septemeber 26, 2009: The Tanenbaum Foundation for Interreligious Understanding in NYC created a Peacemakers in Action award for individuals who use their faith to build peace and transform armed conflict. They have had many representatives of Abrahamic faiths, but are looking for nominees of Eastern faith traditions.

The following 5 criteria are used to assess candidacy:
1. Religious Motivation
2. They work in an area of armed conflict
3. They have jeopardized their life and/or liberty
4. Locally based- geographical proximity to the site of conflict
5. Relatively unknown
