MILPITAS, CALIFORNIA, March 31, 2010: Purnima Nandkishore is the author of the cookbook “Amrit: Luscious & Heart-Healthy Indian Meals.” South Asians have a coronary artery disease rate that is four-fold higher than the general population in the United States. That is why the book is focused on introducing people to fusion cooking with Indian flavors while helping them prevent or control chronic diseases like diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
Nandkishore outlines the secrets of making mouth-watering traditional Indian favorites in new ways by incorporating foods that have been documented to help heart health by numerous scientific studies. The book is a collaborative between Nandkishore; her husband Nanda; and Karen Yee, a senior research dietician at Brigham & Women’s Hospital.
