SRINAGAR, INDIA, May 22, 2012 (Outlook India): Inclement weather and fresh snowing in upper reaches for the past week are proving to be major hurdles in track clearance works and in making other arrangements for the annual Amarnath Yatra to the holy cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas.
“The weather this year is following a very highly unusual pattern. After the record snowfall during the winter, it was expected that weather would clear allowing the work to start on clearing tracks and in making arrangements at base camps well in time for the Yatra,” Chief Executive Officer N K Choudhary told the meeting.
“Even yesterday, there was snowfall on the entire Yatra route. Unexpectedly, some two to three inches snow fell at Baltal base camp,” Choudhary said.
The Governor directed the CEO and all engineering personnel to prepare a contingency plan for clearance of the Yatra tracks, an SASB spokesman said.
