SPAIN, November 2, 2015 (Andalucia Informacion): The city of Torremolinos hosted the celebration of Diwali or Festival of Lights, the most important festival in India. The mayor of the municipality, Jose Ortiz, together with the Councillor for Culture, Aida Blanes, attended the reception organized by the Indian community in San Miguel Street, which was illuminated with ‘Happy Diwali’ lights for the first time this year.

The Hindu community in the area, around 500 members, celebrated the new year according to the Hindu calendar. During Diwali it’s common to see Indians dressed in their typical and traditional clothes, share sweets with family and friends, gifts and prayers, which this time took place in the Hindu temple located in Arroyo de la Miel, which was attended by representatives of the City of Benalmadena, including the mayor, Victor Navas.
