GERMANY, February 10, 2025 (WDR, Google translated from German): For days, members of the Schwerte Hindu community have been preparing the opening ceremony for their new temple – with elaborate ceremonies according to Hindu tradition. Priests came especially from London and Sri Lanka for this. They laid the foundation stone six and a half years ago – now the temple of Sri Kanakathurka Ambal Aalavam Schwerte e.V. is complete. Temple builders from India have skillfully crafted statues of Gods, animals and devas here over the past few years. They applied a mixture of sand, water, and cement in countless layers and stabilized the statues with copper wires.

The temple is dedicated to the main Goddess, Sri Kanakathurka. She stands in the center. According to Hindu belief, this Goddess primarily grants courage to the faithful. Around her in the temple are nine other Deities. All have specific meanings – they represent, for example, luck, knowledge, wealth, or warmth. Gobinaath Suntharalingam is the chairman of the congregation. He is proud that members, who come from all over Germany, can now hold their worship – their puja – in this magnificent temple. The Hindu community in Schwerte built one of the first Hindu temples in Germany in 1985 – in the backyard of a former factory. However, this temple has since become too small. Hence the new building. It has space for around 500 worshippers. And the chairman of the Schwerte Hindu community invites all interested parties: Everyone is welcome in the new temple.
