TRINIDAD & TOBAGO, August 2025 (Guardian): The Kali Yatra Festival, held annually at the Divali Nagar, stands as a powerful cultural and spiritual event dedicated to Goddess Kali. Founded by Gopaul Ragoonanan to dispel misconceptions and create unity among Hindus, the festival has evolved into one of the largest Hindu gatherings outside India. Now in its 12th edition, the festival is being led by his 20-year-old daughter, Rianna Neera Ragoonanan, who grew up immersed in its traditions. Having taken over leadership two years ago, she approaches the role as both a personal calling and an extension of her upbringing, combining devotion with creativity to elevate the festival’s cultural and spiritual impact.

As Creative Director and Marketing Lead, Rianna has shaped the 2025 edition around the theme Maa Bhavatarini: Liberator of the World, marking the unveiling of what may be the first marble murti of this form in Trinidad. Her work bridges tradition and innovation — from producing original musical performances to leading community outreach and youth engagement. For her, Kali Yatra is more than an event; it is a living movement that preserves heritage, inspires devotion, and empowers younger generations. She sees herself as a torchbearer of tradition, ensuring the legacy of the festival continues to evolve while staying rooted in the sacred values that birthed it.
