CEUTA, SPAIN, October 16, 2025 (El Faro De Ceuta, translated from Spanish): Ceuta was once again filled with light and color for Diwali, the great Hindu festival. This Thursday afternoon witnessed the official lighting of the lights, announcing the beginning of one of the most anticipated celebrations for this community. Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, represents the victory of good over evil and of light over darkness. The heart of the event was the Plaza de los Reyes, where local authorities, representatives of the four cultures, and numerous residents gathered. The excitement and anticipation were palpable as final preparations were made for the lighting that marks the beginning of Diwali. Attendees included the President of the City, Juan Vivas, and the Government Delegate, Cristina Pérez, along with several councilors and members of the Assembly. Their presence reflected the institutional support for a festival that symbolizes the coexistence and cultural diversity that characterizes Ceuta.
For this celebration, 14 illuminated arches were installed along different streets: three on Calle Algeciras, eight on Calle Real, and three on Calle Echegaray. In addition, as is tradition, a sign with a Diwali greeting was placed in Kings Square. This year, all the arches were newly designed and structured, bringing a fresh look to the festive lighting. In total, the city has 67,308 LED lights, which give the surrounding area a special glow during the festive nights. For the next few days, our city will remain illuminated with the colors of Diwali, recalling the importance of unity and coexistence between cultures. The scheduled activities will continue with various religious, cultural, and social events, allowing the people of Ceuta to learn more about the traditions of their Hindu neighbors.
