VARANASI, INDIA, September 18, 2006: Resentment is brewing among some members of the Hindu community here over Lord Krishna being dressed in jeans and T-shirt in Vrindavan recently. Some religious leaders in the Hindu community believe that dressing Lord Krishna in jeans and T-shirt with a mobile phone in hand was part of a conspiracy to defame the Hindu religion. General secretary of Uttar Pradesh, Shashtrarth Samiti and secretary of Kashi Yuva Vidvat Parishad, Dr. Ram Narayan Dwivedi, said that dressing Lord Krishna in jeans and T-shirt was against Sanatana Dharma and also against the Vedas. Dr. Dwivedi, who is also priest at the Annapurna temple, demanded stern action against those involved. He added, “The Hindu community would never tolerate such insult of its Deities. It was an attempt to show the influence and supremacy of Western culture over Hindu culture and religion,” he said. Chief priest of Kashi Sumeru Peeth, Swami Narendranand Saraswati, said that dressing Lord Krishna in jeans and T-shirt was part of well-planned conspiracy to hurt the religious sentiments of millions of Hindus. He went on to say that the priest supervising the rituals should be sacked immediately so that no other person made any such attempts in future.
