KATHMANDU, NEPAL, November 11, 2015 (Kathmandu Post): People across the country are celebrating the third day of Tihar festival by worshipping cows on Wednesday. Cows, considered highly sacred by Hindus, are generally worshipped on the morning by putting Tika and offering delicious food. The milk, dung and urine of cow are used for purification purpose by Hindus on various occasions.
On the evening, Hindus worship Laxmi, the Goddess of wealth, in accordance with time honored tradition wishing for prosperity. The entire house is decorated with different kinds of lights and oil lamps. Candles are placed inside and outside the homes. According to legend, Lakshmi visits her devotees and bestows gifts and blessings upon each of them. Hindu mythology suggests that Goddess Lakshmi likes cleanliness and will visit the cleanest house first.
