DANVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA, June 6, 2025 (WNEP): On Jerseytown Road near Danville in Montour County, a new Hindu Temple called Shanti Mandir is ready to welcome the faithful. Ground broke less than two years ago, but the idea was years in the making. Board members say they are full of gratitude to see the temple now complete. “Seeing the community come together and more importantly the participation that we’ve seen and the culture that we’re able to share, it’s phenomenal,” Bhanushali, the president, said. Shanti Mandir means “peace temple.” They say they want to bring people together and represent peace in the world. Board members say before this was built there was not a temple close by, meaning they had to take their families further away to pray. This was one of the reasons behind the inspiration to build.
Members say that the temple has a few different goals it’s looking to accomplish from spiritual to community expansion. “The inner, deeper connection of educational activities that this temple can offer, so it’s temple specific goals,” said board member Zankhana Mehta. All kinds of local businesses have been helping the temple along the way and board members plan to keep everything local with future needs. As far as where board members see the temple going from this point, they say it all depends on how the community comes together. “We look forward to participation not just from our neighbors or local friends, but also from distant Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania and that’ s where we see the growth of the temple,” said Bhanushali. Shanti Mandir will have its grand inauguration this weekend with a lot planned for both Saturday and Sunday.
