BALI, September 20, 2025 (Bali Portal News): Hindus across the archipelago once again celebrated the Holy Day of Tumpek Landep on Saturday (September 20, 2025), which falls every 210 days (six months). On this day, various metal objects, such as motorcycles, cars, and computers, are decorated with coconut leaves and flowers, and offerings (banten) are offered as a symbol of purification. However, the true meaning of Tumpek Landep goes beyond the ritual of decorating objects. It is more than that; this day is a moment to sharpen the mind, heart, and devotion in life. This was emphasized by Luh Irma Susanthi, S.Sos., M.Pd., Coordinator of Hindu Religious Extension in Kubutambahan District. She explained that, according to the Sundarigama palm leaf manuscript, Tumpek Landep is a day of worship for Bhatara Siwa and Sang Hyang Pasupati. The ceremonial instruments used are not simply iron objects, but symbols of the sharpness of the human mind (idep).

“The essence of Tumpek Landep is a moment to sharpen the mind so that words and actions are in accordance with dharma. So, it’s not just about decorating a vehicle, but also about honing self-awareness,” Irma explained. In the past, Tumpek Landep was used to venerate the keris, spears and swords of warriors. However, what was truly revered was not the iron, but rather the dharmic values behind the weapons. “If once our weapon was the keris, today our weapons are cellphones, laptops and internet connections. The question is, are we using this digital keris for good or for harming others?” she added.
