UNITED STATES, September 1, 2026 (Korea Daily): An alarming 63% of English-language religion and faith paperbacks sold on Amazon may have been written using artificial intelligence, according to a recent analysis by AI detection platform Originality.ai. Examining 2,034 books across 14 religious categories with an average rating of 4 stars or higher during the first half of the year, researchers evaluated book descriptions, author bios and body text samples. The study highlights how AI has evolved past a mere publishing assistant into a mass-production tool for spiritual literature. The study found that occult books had the highest AI usage likelihood at 78%, followed by Hinduism at 76% and Taoism at 74%. Researchers suggested that non-native English speakers are likely leveraging AI translation and generation tools to break into the English-speaking Amazon market, particularly within Eastern religions. Furthermore, Hindu books showed a striking trend where 25% of the titles appeared to have their descriptions, author bios and body text entirely generated by AI. AI-generated religious books tended to be cheaper and shorter. Experts warn that unlike general information books, these mass-produced AI slop religious materials exploit readers’ deepest faith and spiritual values for commercial profit, capitalizing on existing beliefs rather than offering genuine theological insight.
