FREEMONT, CALIFORNIA, February 16, 2004: Seventy-seven teachers from Fremont union school district attended the “Hinduism Seminar” at Ardenwood elementary school, Fremont, according to this report from V. Murthy (“source”). He writes, “This seminar was organized by Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) and Indic Culture & Traditions Seminars (ICATS) at the invitation of one of their teachers, Sari Millard. Ms. Millard had attended the seminar at San Ramon and liked the format and contents. She took the initiative to have this in their annual staff and teachers learning day. Ms. Milard mentioned that since the seminar at San Ramon, she has her framed certificate displayed on the wall of her classroom. The parents appreciate the fact that she has attended the seminar and has the sensitivity needed to work with children of Hindu background. We have received 65 surveys in this seminar; 38 of them have rated all items as 5 — the highest rating possible; 11 are 5s and 4s; 5 are all 4s. The rest are a mixed bag …. some complaining about how cold the room was, how sleepy they were, they preferred tea/chai to coffee — none of these was in our control. Main speaker for the seminar was Madhulikaji Singh, who is a Sevika of Sunnyvale Shakha. She was assisted by Raghu Seshadri ji in question-answer session. Along with the religion and history, presentation also included present day contribution of Hindus in America. Some teachers wanted the source of the info about the contribution of Indians to Modern USA — they want to use that material in their class — they thought it was very relevant! It also included a section on making rotis, parathas and pooris. Some teachers have asked for electronic copies of those to try the recipes at home and one teacher wants to use it in her cooking class. After the talks and Q/A, we had a yoga session for half an hour conducted by Yoga-Bharati. All the participants enjoyed the colorful dance and ethnic fashion show by children. The seminar concluded with delicious Indian lunch.”
