BHOPAL, INDIA, February 23, 2004: The Holy Cities of Amarkantak, Maheshwar, and Omkareshwar will be receiving a good dose of State Assistance under the direction of the Minister for Urban Administration and Development, Shri Babulal Gaur, in collaboration with the Minister for Religious Trusts and Endowment, Shri Gopal Bhargava. At a high level meeting chaired by Shri Gaur the article says, “Shri Gaur stressed the need for de-polluting the Narmada river at Amarkantak, Maheshwar and Omkareshwar, including the Narmada under the National River Conservation Plan, development of Ghats, development of identified places and for implementing an integrated plan for improving facilities there.” Gaur also pointed out that separate ghats will be built for men and women, that flower gardens will enhance the holy cities, and that the source of the Narmada river will be made pollution free. In addition, roads will be widened at religious places in Omkareshwar and Maheshwar, proper drinking and drainage facilities will be provided, and religious books will be available. The article says, “Shri Gopal Bhargava stressed the need for preservation of temples. He said that in view of demand for milk products for worship and rituals, the Dairy Department should also be associated with it.” Shri Gaur concluded by directing that all the works should be completed in a timely manner.
