KUALA LUMPUR, April 9, 2004: About 500 Hindu police officers and former police officers gathered at the Sri Thandaithabani Temple, Jalan Ipoh, to offer special prayers in conjunction with the 197th Police Day. The function started off with the Sangga Abishagam (bathing of the Deity with water blessed in conch shells) at 3pm followed by the main prayer at about 7:30pm. Organizing committee chairman Supt T.Narenasagaran, who is also Chief of the Forensic Unit of the Senior Officers Training College in Cheras, said today’s event was mainly to get God’s blessing. “Our prayer is not only to obtain the blessings but also to get guidance from the Almighty to help our men in discharging their duties according to our police motto Mesra, Cepat dan Betul (friendly, quick and right),” he told Bernama here today. Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Datuk G. Palanivel and Sentul OCPD ACP A.Thaiveegan attended the function. Devotees were served vegetarian food and prasadam (milk rice offered to the Deity).
