COIMBATORE, INDIA, April 25, 2004: We received the following announcement from Pramod Kumar, Coordinator, Programme for Cultural Education and Self-Growth:

I am writing from Ammachi’s Deemed University in Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, India. As you are aware Amma is very concerned about true education – that all students should imbibe spiritual culture along with their secular education. It is to fulfill Amma’s vision and mission that all her schools under the banner of Amrita Vidyalayams have introduced a comprehensive course on Hinduism titled “Vedic Heritage Teaching Programme” developed by Swami Dayananda’s disciples of Arsha Vidya Gurukulam. To take this a step further, we would also like to introduce a course on culture and spirituality for students of the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Deemed University. In order to put together a comprehensive curriculum for this course, we have convened a national symposium on “Cultural Education in 21st Century India” (see “source” above) to seek inputs from the best thinkers and educationists in the country. This will take place May 8 and 9, 2004.

The two-day symposium includes lecture demonstrations, slide-shows, panel discussions etc. on themes like “Dharma – Its implications in individual, social and national life;” “Role of Sanatana Dharma and Itihasa in the life of Bharatiya;” “Introducing Spirituality into Indian Education;” “Insight on Management from Ramayana and Mahabharata;” etc. This symposium is expected to provide valuable inputs for the course which we plan to implement in the next semester.
