UJJAIN, INDIA, May 4, 2004: The Shahi Snan (royal bath) on the last day of the ongoing month-long Simhast (Kumbh) mela began here on Tuesday, with sadhus belonging to various akharas commencing the bath by reaching the banks of river Kshipra in a royal procession and a record number of devotees arriving for the holy dip. The bath began at 6 am in the morning with sadhus belonging to Panchdashnama Juna Akhara, led by Swami Parmanand Saraswati, arriving first for the royal bath at the main Datt Aakhara Ghat. Sadhus chanting Har har Mahadev and Bam bam bhole carrying their traditional flags and symbols leapt into the river. Thereafter, Juna Akhara, Niranjani Anand and Mahanirvani Atal (all Shaiv Akharas) took the royal bath at the Datt Aakhara, while Nirmohi Ani, Digamber, Nirwani, Bada Udaseen, Naya Udaseen and Nirmal Akhara (all Vaishnav Akharas) were taking bath at the main Ram Ghat.
