KATHMANDU, NEPAL, December 16, 2004: A unique wedding procession of thousands of devotees all the way from India converged today in Nepal to mark the marriage anniversary of Lord Rama and Sita attended by hundreds of thousands of pilgrims. Nepal’s King Gayendra joined devotees from Ayodhya, Ahemdabad and Bihar at Janakarpurdham to mark the auspicious day, organized by Nepal Tourism Board. Janakpur, considered to be the birth place of Sita, was decorated with colorful lights and gates all around. Religious symposia, reciting religious songs, garlanding of Ram and Sita, bow-breaking ceremony were among the activities being performed during the ceremony. The wedding procession which started from Ayodhya covering about 1,100 kms in five days was attended by VHP President Ashok Singhal, General Secretary Giriraj Kishore, Mahant Nritya Gopal Dash and Jagadguru Rameshworanand from Ramanda Sampradaya of Ahmedabad among others. The groom party was accorded warm welcome by Nepal Minister for Education and Culture Bimalendra Nidhi, World Hindu Federation Chairman Bharat Keshar Singh, Mahanta of the Janaki temple Ram Tapeshwor Das and Chairman of Greater Janakpur Development Area Bhojraj Ghimire.
