DEHRADUN, INDIA, January 28, 2005: Pilgrims intending to undertake Kailas Manas Sarovar Yatra this year will have to pay higher fees. The Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam has now pegged the amount at US$352 per passenger against last year’s $318 in addition to $600 to be paid to the Chinese Government for visiting the site, its Director D. K. Sharma said. The annual pilgrimage to the sacred Mount Kailas, is handled by the Ministry of External Affairs while the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) is the implementing authority. The Government was making all arrangements for travellers on a no-loss, no-profit basis, he told UNI. “This year, we have planned to enlarge the size of one travelling group to 44 from 17. For that, we have to seek permission from the Central Government,” he said. The KMVN has also submitted a proposal before the Central Government for starting helicopter service for Kailash pilgrims, he added. The religious journey is slated to commence from May 29 this year.
