NEW DELHI, INDIA, February 28, 2005: An Italian Parliamentary delegation today discussed possible areas of cooperation in traditional systems of medicine with the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Ramadoss. Initiating the discussion, Dr. Ramadoss gave an overview of steps being taken by his Ministry to integrate traditional and modern systems of medicine. Referring to the expansive infrastructure available for traditional systems the Minister said that India was re-inventing the old systems in keeping with the overall trend of the world towards naturopathy and organic practices. The leader of the Italian delegation sought the help of the Indian government for training and teaching of Ayurveda and other traditional systems in his country. Complimenting the Minister for taking steps to scientifically validate the remedies under traditional system, he said that such validation would help in better propagation of such systems in the developed world.
