PURI, INDIA, March 4, 2005: It’s boom time for religious tourism in this famed abode of Lord Jagannath. Apart from regular flow of pilgrims visiting Puri, one of the four famous centers of Hindu faith, during the auspicious days throughout the year, the gurus and the babas from various lineages have started thronging this holy city since the last couple of years. While many of them visit Puri to hold yajnas, fire worship, the rest throng the beach city along with their disciples to hold religious discourses. In the recent past, several gurus like Krupalujee Maharaj, Murary Bapu, Swamy Prajnananda, Guru Ravishanker, the followers of Abhiram Paramhans, Anukul Chandra, Guru Shankerdev and the Sikh followers of Guru Nanak, Mukudanand and Rasheswary Devi, among others, have organized religious congregations here in a big way. When asked, Abhayananda, a guru teaching his disciples Srimat Bhagavat Gita, said, “We are not doing anything new. We are just following the traditions set by our ancient sages and gurus, who have written volumes of text on the holiness of this place.” Apart from religious discourses, yajnas are being organized in the city by people coming from various parts of the country.
