CHENNAI, INDIA, May 11, 2005: VGP group of companies, a prominent trading house in the city, will donate a six-and-a-half-foot-high statue of saint-poet Tiruvalluvar to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The statue, made of stone and weighing about 1,500 kg, will be sent to the international symposium on the Tamil treatise, Tirukkural, written by the saint-poet over 2,000 years ago. The three-day symposium will begin in the Malaysian capital on June 17. Malaysian Minister for Public Works Datto Samivelu will unveil the statue on the same day. Giving these details, chairman of the VGP group V G Santhosam, said the statue had been made at a cost of US$2,300. The statue was being sent on behalf of the VGP Ulaga Tamizh Sangam (World Tamil Association), on a request from the Malaysian Tamil Coordinators Association, which is organizing the symposium.
