PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA, May 15, 2005: The Malaysia Hindu Sangam held its 28th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday, May 15, 2005 at the Plantation House, Petaling Jaya. Sangam President, Y. Bhg Datuk A. Vaithilingam, presided over the meeting. “Our aim is to empower the Hindu community to meet the challenges of the modern world without losing touch with their spiritual roots. The Hindu Renaissance Action Plan, as you all know by now, has 5 major objectives,” said Sri Vaithilingam. “The main objective is to enhance the role of temples so that in addition to fulfilling their central role as places of worship, temples also become community centers. Through the temple, we will then try and implement the remaining four objectives which are increasing religious knowledge; community empowerment and social welfare services; the revival of Hindu cultural activities, and modernizing of Hindu print and electronic media,” he continued.
