NEW DELHI, INDIA, June 19, 2005: Prayag Peeth’s Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Madhavananda Saraswati passed away this morning at 9.30 am at New Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences [AIIMS]. He was 67. Leaders of all the political parties of India have expressed condolence on the death of Shankaracharya. Devotees and others could have the last darshan of Shankaracharya at Omkar Dham in Rama Vihar till 5 pm today. Cremation ceremony will take place at 5 pm on Sunday at Allahabad. Pragyapeethadheeshwar Dr. Pragyananda Ji Maharaj, Rajeshwarananda Saraswati and Bhagwan Bapu have also expressed their condolence on the death. The successor to the Shankaracharya, Swami Omkarananda Saraswati, left with the body of Shankaracharya for Allahabad, this evening.
