NEW DELHI, INDIA, October 26, 2005: The Supreme Court has shifted Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi’s trial in the Sankararaman murder case outside Tamil Nadu. The trial will now take place in Pondicherry. The verdict was pronounced by a bench comprising Chief Justice R. C. Lahoti and Justice G. P. Mathur. The seer had petitioned the Supreme Court saying that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was personally interfering in the trial. He had asked for the case to be shifted out of the state so as to get a fair trial. The Tamil Nadu government on the other hand has termed the allegations of interference as false and had vehemently opposing the transfer.
