HARIDWAR, INDIA, November 18, 2005: Swami Vishweswara Teertha of Udupi Pejawar Mutt today laid the foundation stone of a Ram temple in this pilgrim town after Bhoomi Poojan and other rituals amid chanting of Vedic hymns. A large number of sants, mahants and mahamandleshwars of both the Vaishnav and Saiva akharas and ashrams from Hardwar and other parts of the country participated in the ceremony. The initiative to construct the temple costing about US$22.7 million has been jointly undertaken by Jagatguru Ramanadacharya Smarak Seva Nyas and Shree Muth of Kashi. Ramananda sect chief Swami Ramnareshacharya told the UNI that the temple would be completed by 2010 and inaugurated during the Mahakumbh to be held that year.
