ORLANDO, FLORIDA,USA, March 30, 2006: The conference Ayurveda: Living Healthy Longer held in Orlando, Florida March 24-26, 2006 brought together many of the top authorities in Ayurvedic and Allopathic medicine for one incredible weekend of partnership and discovery. Over 100 participants attended this unique program sponsored by the Hindu University of America as it looked how these two systems of medicine address cancer, arthritis and diabetes. The conference program read like a Who’s Who listing in the Ayurvedic and Allopathic medical community. Sri Swamini Mayatitananda, Dr. Vasant Lad, Dr. Marc Halpern, Dr. Vivek Shanbhag, Dr. Claudia Beghe, Dr. Bala V. Manyam, Dr. Gopal Basisht, Dr. Prachi Garodia, Dr. Light Miller, Dr. Virender Sodhi, Dr. Alakananda Ma, Dr. Nikita Shah and Gayathri Shanbhag each addressed a unique concern for today’s healthcare crisis faced by millions.
Subhas Tiwari, Professor of Yoga at Hindu University and Conference Chair, shared, “The conference was a unique opportunity to have professionals from divergent medical fields engage in a dialogue to discuss the top three health disorders of our aging population today: cancer, arthritis and diabetes. The program provided invaluable information for the participants, both healthcare providers and lay people, regarding management and treatment.” Tiwari added, “The sessions on Ayurvedic nutrition, spices and daily routine were useful and practical. These are things everyone can take with them and practice immediately.”
The primary focus of the conference was geared towards understanding the link between health and longevity in order to make the most out of life. The marriage of these time honored Ayurvedic holistic practices with modern Allopathic understanding show that cancer, arthritis and diabetes can be successfully controlled and treated. It is possible to manage the disorder and even reverse it in some instances through daily routines based on the individual’s unique physiological and psychological make up. “Ayurveda helps to empower the individual by simple, easy to understand and practical steps that everyone can follow,” shared Tiwari. Much to the delight of all the speakers and participants, Hindu University is planning another conference on Ayurveda for 2007.
