NEW YORK, NEW YORK, May 4, 2006: Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma) was presented with the Interfaith Center of New York’s (ICNY) 4th Annual James Parks Morton Interfaith Award. The ICNY bestowed the award upon Amma for her outstanding role as a spiritual leader and humanitarian, citing her organization’s massive relief work in the wake of the 2004 Asian Tsunami. The award ceremony took place at the Rubin Museum of Art in Manhattan. Amma delivered an address on intra-religious understanding and collaboration. Since its inception in 1997, the Interfaith Award has been presented to 11 individuals who are doing exceptional work in fostering peace and harmony between the religions of the world.
