HOLLAND, July 21-23, 2006: A three-day open air theatre play on the Ramayan (also known as the Ramlila) will take place at Lloydkwartier (Mullerpier) in Rotterdam from July 21 to July 23. A foundation called Stichting Trisur has organized the event, and the organizers explain, “The Ramlila will be performed in Hindi, but a Dutch narrator will tell the story to the audiences on specific moments. There will also be subtitles shown on a big screen. The aim of Ramlila is to show an idealized image of the love and respectful ways in which people can interact with each other. We can learn from Shri Ram, the main character, how he behaves towards his parents, brothers, wife and community. Ramlila is also a way to understand and learn all the different aspects from the millennia old Hindu art, culture, habits and traditions. The whole event will have a vegetarian and non-alcoholic character, as that will be in line with Hindu culture.”
