BARIPADA, INDIA, March 8, 2009: The villagers of Kishoripur in Betanoti area dug up a 2.5-foot-tall granite statue of the Goddess Chandi today. The statue has been installed in a local temple, in a ceremony attended by thousands of devotees. Local historians believe the statue might have been concealed for safekeeping when Kala Pahad had attacked the state, destroying temples and other religious symbols of Hinduism.
