KAPAA, HAWAII, USA, October 30, 2009: The Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions has announced Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami as a featured program presenter at the 2009 Parliament. As the world’s largest interfaith gathering, representatives and leaders from all faith traditions will gather in Melbourne, Australia, Dec. 3-9, to work together to create a more peaceful, just world. As the publisher of Hinduism Today and guru mahasannidhanam of Kauai’s Hindu Monastery, Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami will play a very important role at the Parliament, offering key teachings, while also providing his manifold blessings.
The Parliament of Religions was first held in 1893, bringing together the holy teachings of the East and West for the first time–introducing millions to Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Jainism through landmark speeches by saints such as Swami Vivekananda. At the Centenary Parliament of the World’s Religions in 1993, Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami, Hinduism Today’s founder and Bodhinatha Veylanswami’s predecessor, was elected one of three presidents of Hinduism.
Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami will help continue this historic tradition, opening new doors of understanding through his wise words and holy presence. In the upcoming Parliament, Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami will be offering a guided meditation on the morning of Dec. 6 and will speak on “Mutual Respect” as one of the key presenters in the Convocation of Hindu Spiritual Leaders on Dec. 8 from 8am to 1pm. He will also chair a Hindu intra-faith meeting on “The Future of Hinduism in the Western World” on Dec. 8 from 4:30 to 6pm and will be a featured guest at numerous public events surrounding the Parliament that will be held offsite by the Hindu community of Victoria. Paramacharya Palaniswami, the editor-in-chief of Hinduism Today and HPI, will speak at a Parliament panel on Religion and the Media alongside editors from BBC, CNN and Al Jazeera.
In total, the Parliament of the World’s Religions will host 500 events and 8,000 people from over 80 countries as a forum for peace, understanding, and fellowship, an experience that intends to challenge, motivate and, above all, inspire faith. Hindus from around the world are encouraged to join Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami and dozens of other prominent Hindu leaders and their devotees in Melbourne this December.
