NEW DELHI, INDIA, December 5, 2009 (by Rajiv Malik): “I am so happy that such an institution has arisen in the name of Swami Vivekananda for the sake of inter religious cooperation and unity, and for portraying the values of Sanatana Dharma on a global level.” These views were expressed by Revered Mata Amritanandamayi, while delivering her benedictory address at a grand function organized on December 1, 2009, in connection with the inauguration of Vivekananda Kendra Bhavan and launch of Vivekananda International Foundation.

She continued, “Swami Vivekananda was such an effulgent being. He was a great sannyasin, who revolutionized and transformed society, a complete jnani, a perfect example of devotion to the Guru, an elevated karma yogi and a brilliant orator. All in all, Swami Vivekananda was an extremely rare individual, a divine flower that blossomed in the perfect spiritual power of Sri Ramakrishna, spreading fragrance throughout the world.”

Amma emphasized that what India needed today was strength, vigor and bravery. Sharing her thoughts on how the upbringing of the youth needs to be done, Amma said, “It is not enough for parents to give their children only wealth and luxuries. The wealth that they really need to impart to their children is culture and proper values.” She also suggests turning to spiritual leaders for examples, saying, “There is no greater example of spirituality than the lives of mahatmas.Their lives are their message. As they perform actions without selfishness or attachment, they quickly bring about change in the world.”
