NEW DELHI, INDIA, January 6, 2010: The Vivekananda Centre plans to invoke Swami Vivekananda’s teachings of social and cultural harmony in an effort to encourage students to help protect monuments. Swamiji’s birthday, January 12, will be celebrated as Heritage Day in educational institutions to attract students to conservation, human resource development ministry sources said.
Last week, the University Grants Commission (UGC) issued an order to all universities to organize the event, and schools shall follow soon. Students are expected to take an oath on January 12 pledging their commitment to preserving monuments.
