The event was initiated for the first time by the newly-devised Asia Houston Network, a nonprofit organization affiliated to the Mayor&#8217;s office created to help build stronger ties between the Asian and mainstream American cultures. Titled &#8220;Beauty, Brains, Power: Asian Women In Media&#8221; the award recognized honorees for their contribution to print, radio and television media.
