{"id":22645,"date":"2025-12-26T03:20:34","date_gmt":"2025-12-26T03:20:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hinduismtoday.com\/hpi\/?p=22645"},"modified":"2025-12-26T03:20:34","modified_gmt":"2025-12-26T03:20:34","slug":"thailand-explains-demolishing-of-vishnu-statue-on-the-thailand-cambodia-border","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hinduismtoday.com\/hpi\/2025\/12\/26\/thailand-explains-demolishing-of-vishnu-statue-on-the-thailand-cambodia-border\/","title":{"rendered":"Thailand Explains Demolishing of Vishnu Statue on the Thailand-Cambodia Border"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>THAILAND, December 25, 2025 (theweek.in): A day after India expressed concern over the demolition of a Lord Vishnu statue by the\u00a0 Thai Military on the Thailand-Cambodia border, the Thai authorities have issued\u00a0 a clarification on the act, stating the demolished structure was not a \u201cregistered religious site\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Thai-Cambodian border press centre issued a statement on Thursday to alleviate India\u2019s wrath, stating that the statue was installed recently. \u201cThe actions were not intended to involve religion, beliefs, or disrespect any sacred entities, but were solely for the purpose of area management and security, following the Thai side&#8217;s regaining control of areas under Thailand&#8217;s sovereignty,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The center said that the statue was a later addition and not an officially registered religious site. \u201cThe action was therefore taken to confirm control of the area, minimize the risk of misunderstandings, and prevent the use of symbols that could lead to further tension,\u201d it clarified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement added that the statue was built on the disputed Thai-Cambodian border area at Chong An Ma. It claimed the symbols were erected by Cambodian soldiers to illegally claim sovereignty over Thai territory. \u201cFollowing the operation on December 22, 2025, the Thai army successfully recaptured the Chong An Ma area.
