In a process expected to last more than five years, experts have begun digitizing the collection of over ten million palm leaves with centuries-old writing in the state archives department. The manuscripts on palmyra palm leaves are a rich source of history of Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu. “We expect the whole work to take at least five years,” said S. Raimon, archives department director. “As a first step of digitization, we are carefully dusting the palm-leaves and cleaning them using preserving oil,” Raimon told IANS. “This would take more than a year and then they will be scanned and the data stored in CDs.” Cultural affairs minister A.P.
