A court in the Rajasthan town directed Karmik and Alone, the visiting Israeli couple, to pay a fine or face 10 days&#8217; imprisonment. The couple paid the fine, a police official told IANS on phone from Pushkar. The court&#8217;s judgement followed the couple&#8217;s admission of kissing in a public place. &#8220;They admitted to the act of kissing in a public place,&#8221; the couple&#8217;s counsel Pratap Kumar said. &#8220;It is victory for us. We will not tolerate any cultural pollution of this sort,&#8221; said Ladoo Ram Sharma, president of the Shree Teerth Gurupurohit Sangh Trust, a body of local priests. Sharma said the government should frame regulations for foreigners visiting Pushkar. &#8220;They should respect our traditions and culture. When visiting a holy town such as Pushkar, they should be asked to dress properly,&#8221; Sharma said. &#8220;To begin with, we plan to put pamphlets in all hotels in Pushkar requesting visitors from abroad to follow certain rules and to refrain from hurting the sentiments of Hindus,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The couple had drawn the ire of Pushkar&#8217;s priests by kissing in public after tying the knot at a ceremony in the town. The incident occurred Sep 6 when the duo got married according to traditional Hindu rituals at Brahma Ghat. Priests were enraged as the couple began embracing and kissing each other even before the ceremony was over. The priests&#8217; association charged the couple with violating the religious sentiments of the people of the holy town.
