There&#8217;s a religious requirement that the kitchen always be open. The ceremony, done for reasons such as a birthday or anniversary or the death of a loved one, was born in India two centuries ago as a reaction to persecution, and has become a mark of the faith&#8217;s identity in 21st-century America. Recently, the Suri family consecrated a new home in Plano with the religious reading.
