Sugunendra Teertha had travelled to the United States and Europe to promote Hinduism.<\/p>\n<p>This upset some orthodox Brahmins in Udipi who believe that travelling overseas defiles a Brahmin&#8217;s purity. They wanted him barred from priesthood.
