{"id":7998,"date":"2009-07-09T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-07-09T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hinduismtoday.com\/hpi\/2009\/07\/09\/muslims-sikhs-and-jain-leaders-urge-government-against-legalizing-gay-sex\/"},"modified":"2009-07-09T12:00:00","modified_gmt":"2009-07-09T12:00:00","slug":"muslims-sikhs-and-jain-leaders-urge-government-against-legalizing-gay-sex","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hinduismtoday.com\/hpi\/2009\/07\/09\/muslims-sikhs-and-jain-leaders-urge-government-against-legalizing-gay-sex\/","title":{"rendered":"Muslims, Sikhs And Jain Leaders Urge Government Against Legalizing Gay Sex"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hindustantimes.com\/StoryPage\/Print.aspx?Id=f6ce3b58-b67f-4254-9d69-30f3a52deed9\">www.hindustantimes.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>NEW DELHI, INDIA, July 9, 2009: Maintaining that homosexuality is against nature and the &#8220;will of god&#8221;, religious leaders on Thursday urged the government to take their views into consideration before taking any decision on the court judgement de-criminalising gay sex.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We urge the union and Delhi governments to keep in mind the views of various religious committees while taking a stand on the judgement of the Delhi High Court,&#8221; Jain religious leader Acharya Lokesh Muniji told reporters at a press conference of religious leaders in New Delhi on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s not that we don&#8217;t support independence of individuals but this judgment challenges the will of god,&#8221; he told the media hours after the Supreme Court on Thursday issued notices to the union government on its stand on the Delhi High Court verdict de-criminalizing gay sex.<\/p>\n<p>Sharing the platform with Muniji was the president of Jamaat-e-Islaami Hind, Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari who said that according to Islam homosexuality is a crime.
