{"id":8435,"date":"2009-11-10T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-11-10T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hinduismtoday.com\/hpi\/2009\/11\/10\/maryland-governor-celebrates-diwali\/"},"modified":"2009-11-10T12:00:00","modified_gmt":"2009-11-10T12:00:00","slug":"maryland-governor-celebrates-diwali","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hinduismtoday.com\/hpi\/2009\/11\/10\/maryland-governor-celebrates-diwali\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryland Governor Celebrates Diwali"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiajournal.com\/pages\/event.php?id=8898\">www.indiajournal.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND, November 5, 2009: Maryland Governor, Maryin O&#8217;Malley, celebrated Diwali for the first time at the Governor&#8217;s Mansion here, along with members of the Indian-American community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Festival of Lights is a beautiful tradition, and the message of light over darkness is one that can be an inspiration to us all during these difficult times,&#8221; the Governor said wherein he appreciated the significant contributions made by the community in the progress of Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>The Governor also issued a proclamation citing Oct. 17 as Diwali Day, and the week as Diwali week.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing a large gathering of Indian American community and business leaders, Swami Dheerananda from Chinmaya Mission delivered a prayer and spoke about the significance of Diwali.
