He was a pioneer in the field of vegetarian nutrition, providing evidence of the benefits of a vegetarian diet during the 1940s. He was a medical doctor and professor, who held doctoral degrees from both Harvard and Stanford universities, and later founded the School of Public Health at Loma Linda University. <\/p>\n<p>His research confirmed that there are adequate amounts of protein in a vegetarian diet and that animal-fat intake is linked to serum cholesterol concentrations. His data was used for many years by researchers evaluating fatty acid content of diets. He wrote more than 60 peer-review journal articles.<\/p>\n<p>[HPI notes: Dr. Mervyn Hardinge, was a member of the Seventh Day Adventists, a Christian group which advocates vegetarianism.
