KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, December 3, 2006: Highlights from the recent issue of the Malaysian Hindu Sangam e-newsletter begins with an appeal to temple leaders to contact the Malaysian Hindu Sangam immediately upon notice of an impending demolition of their temple. Temple leaders should not remain silent when they receive notices, says the MHS, but contact them immediately, or at the latest within one to two days. The Sangam sadly notes that often temples do not approach the MHS or the relevant ruling political party until it is too late for help to be given.

On December 1 – 3, HH Satguru Bodhinathaswami and Arumugaswami, Publisher and Managing Editor respectively of Hinduism Today, met with many Hindus in Ulu Tiram Johor, Shah Alam and Kuala Lumpur.

The Malaysian AIDS Council has the Malaysia Hindu Sangam, Malaysian Hindu Youth Council and the Malaysian Indian Youth Council as affiliates. All these bodies have conducted HIV/AIDS awareness courses throughout the country. While we have done our part in spreading awareness of HIV and AIDS, what about caring and counseling Hindus who are infected with the virus? This is done by non-Hindu groups, which are mostly Christian based as well as some non-racial and non-religious caring centers like the Pink Triangle (PT) and KL AIDS Support Services Society (KLASS) which care much for Hindus affected by HIV/AIDS. At a World AIDS day function on December 2 organized by KLASS, Datuk A. Vaithilingam, Vice President of Malaysian AIDS Council, assured that the MHS, with the help of YSS, will soon call a meeting of Indians, especially Hindu organizations and the Indian press, to discuss this pathetic situation and try to make a difference.
