LONDON, ENGLAND, November 11, 2006: The UK Hindu Council is active with various efforts to correct misinformation and educate people about Hinduism, according to this report from the Council. They have been helping a London Film School produce a documentary on the Swastika. In the documentary they had to comment on the issue of the European parliament debating banning the Swastika in Europe (UK would have been obliged to ban the Swastika, too). They asked, ” ‘If your son goes out to play and someone throws mud at him, would you discard the boy, or tidy him up?’ The image of Swastika has to be tidied up, not banned!’ “
They continue to interact with public and private schools and recently held workshops for the Hatch End High School and the Mill Hill Public school. These workshops provided a dynamic portrayal of Hinduism and generated good feelings and acceptance of Hinduism from the students representing a diversity of backgrounds. At Sheffield University a one-day session was held with postgraduate students on Hinduism. At its conclusion a student related, “At the start of the session I was an atheist; by the end of the session I had discovered that, actually, I am a Hindu.”
