MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, May 13, 2007: The first Hindu temple built in Melbourne, Australia, will celebrate its second Punarutharana Maha Kumbhabhishekam, Sunday, June 17, between 7:00 a.m. and 9:05 a.m. The Sri Vakrathudaya Vinayagar Temple is Melbourne’s only Ganesha temple and the first temple in Australia to have a granite Rajagopuram (literally translated as the entrance deserving of royalty.) Visited in 1990 by HH Sivaya Subramuniyaswami, founder of Hinduism Today and HPI, the temple has undergone significant refurbishment. In addition to the Rajagopuram, the entire Vasantha mandapam has been redecorated and an extension made to the rear of the shrine to accommodate Durga and Subramaniam Deities. Also new shrines for Gayatri Amman, Siva and Ambal were added.
The temple is located at 1292-1294 Mountain Highway, The Basin, Victoria 3154. For more information regarding Kumbhabhishekam details, contact Mr. Shan Pillai, President of the Melbourne Vinayaka Hindu Sangam at e-mail above.
