MUMBAI, INDIA, October 1, 2006: The area of Madhav Baugh in Mumbai’s C. P. Tank area are getting ready to welcome the devotees of Goddess Durga. Every year area witnesses endless queues of devotees. The Kalbadevi Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee (KSDPC), which has been celebrating Durga Puja at Madhav Baugh for the past 77 years, is a must visit Durga Puja mandal for devotees. The KSDP mandal is known for its deity’s face, which they claim is unique from most of the Durga Deities in the city. Draped in a bright red Banarasi sari, the Durga Deity which is approximately 20 feet tall stands at the centre along with idols of Ganapati, Mahalaxshmi, Mahasara-swati and Sadanand Kartik. All the Deities at the KSDP mandal are made from eco-friendly material like bamboo, rice grass straws and jute, and the red mud is specially brought from the banks of the River Ganga and the Deities are painted in water colors. The Deities are made by N.C. Paul and Sons, a team of 25 sculptors from Kolkata, who have been associated with the KSDP mandal for more than 50 years.
