KOLKATA, INDIA, June 11, 2007: The pilgrims arrive at Belur Math north of Kolkata as the sun rises and bathe in the Ganga in preparation for a long awaited visit to the Dakshineshwar Kali Temple. For decades they have read about Sri Ramakrishna and the places associated with his remarkable and inspiring life, and now these sites are about to become a reality to them. They board the nearby ferry boat and proceed to make the short journey upstream to the ghat near the Dakshineshwar Temple compound. At long last they are able to have darshan of Bhavatarini Kali in the Temple built by Rani Rasmani in the nineteenth century, where Sri Ramakrishna practiced intense spiritual disciplines while serving as the temple priest. They visit the twelve Siva temples across the courtyard, as well as the Radha-Krishna temple. They then meditate in Sri Ramakrishna’s room, as well as at the Nahabat where Sri Sarada Devi spent years of her life. With these holy sites imprinted in their memories, the pilgrims return to Belur Math, the world headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission, and view the holy samadhi shrines of Holy Mother, the great Swami Vivekananda, and Swami Brahmananda which form such an impressive sight along the holy Ganga. Now, when the pilgrims return home, the stirring events of Sri Ramakrishna’s life will be recalled with a new vitality. The video, at URL above, is about 11 minutes long, and is in the Quicktime format.
