CEUTA, SPAIN, July 4, 2005: (translated from original Spanish) Ceuta will construct a Hindu temple between the years 2006 and 2008. The Council of Government gave the approval yesterday to a proposal from the advisor of Education, Culture and Sport, Mabel Deu, to establish a financing reserve during the next three years for the construction of a Hindu temple, that would rise within the framework of an agreement with this community. This economic provision will be included in the City Budgets for 2006, 2007 and 2008 so that during these three years this investment can be undertaken, according to what the spokeswoman of the Government, Elena Sanchez, explained. The spokeswoman of the Executive emphasized the importance of this event not only from the religious point of view, but also from the cultural one. The intention, according to Sanchez, is that the Hindu temple would be a “representative” element and a tourist interest, since it could be built as one of the inter-culture symbols that characterizes Ceuta and defines its population. The project plan for the building of the temple is already written up.

HPI adds: Ceuta is a Spanish enclave on the Moroccan coast (population 75,000) known for its inter-religious harmony.
