KUKKE SUBRAMANYA, KARNATAKA, INDIA, May 8, 2006: (HPI note: This article appears in today’s print edition of the Times of India. Sachine Tendulkar, India’s most famous and popular cricketer, can be seen in a photo wearing a white dhoti, sitting with two saints and a large number of priests in the background.)
If Sachin returns to his swashbuckling self, he might have spiritual advice to thank for it. At Kukke Subramanya Temple, the master-blaster’s loss of form and injury problems were traced to ‘sarpa [snake] dosha’ and adverse planetary positions, for which a two-day session of corrective rituals began on Sunday. In the morning he visited the main temple at Subramanya and performed a special puja and aarti. He then went to the Adi Subramanya Temple and performed the sarpa samskara seva, a ritual that took about half an hour. The ritual will continue on Monday, beginning 6 am. He will also perform another ritual, ashlesha bali, which is for general well-being.
