MUMBAI, INDIA, May 8, 2006: The film version of Dan Brown’s controversial bestseller, The Da Vinci Code, was all set to hit Indian theatres on the May 19, simultaneously along with its worldwide release. But according to reports, Sony Pictures, the Indian distributors of the film, have now decided to wait for the reaction the film receives in other Asian and Non-Asian centres. The Da Vinci Code, which stars Tom Hanks, has been facing opposition from the All India Christian Council. Mumbai-based Catholic Secular Forum (CSF) has threatened to go on “fast unto death” from May 12 if the Government fails to stop the release of “anti-Christian movies” like The Da Vinci Code. CSF General Secretary, Joseph Dias said thousands of Christians will assemble at Canossa Convent in suburban Mahim, on Wednesday to protest against anti-Christian films and to demand special legislation against films and books hurting the religious sentiments of communities He said if the Government does not take action to stall the release of the two movies, they would go on fast unto death from May 12.
